Grand Gulf Dogtrot

Grand Gulf Dogtrot | Claiborne County Mississippi | c. 1768

This 2-story dogtrot style home began as a one-room log house in 1768 in the community of Scotia, MS, which had been settled by a group of Scotsmen after Great Brittain acquired the land from France following the French and Indian War. The second floor was added as family living quarters and the downstairs was used as a stage stop accommodations for travelers.

In 1974, this home was taken apart and moved log by log, including the 52-foot hand-hewn timbers above the door, to Grand Gulf Military Park, where it sits now. You can learn more about the home and Grand Gulf Park here.
