Mysterious Mansion

J.F. Miller Home | Gonzales County Texas | c. 1904

In 1868, James Francis Miller bought this lot of land, although he wouldn't begin construction on this impressive home until later in the 1800s. James was a prominent local figure who practiced law both before and after his enrollment in the Civil War. He would later found a bank and join the Texas Congress. His home, called 'Walnut Ridge,' wasn't completed until 1901, and sadly, James would die just one year later.

His widow, Julia, would live in the home until 1912 at which point ownership shifted, and has a few times since. Despite its current appearance, locals maintain that its current owner still lives here, in an isolated portion of the home.
