Texas' First school for African-American Women

Mary Allen Seminary | Houston COUNTY TEXAS | c. 1886

In 1886, a Freedman's Group founded this school, as the first educational institute for African-American females in Texas. Later, it would become a Liberal Arts School until 1972, when it closed due to legal issues.

Although it has been sitting like this for many years now, there have been efforts to renovate the massive structure for community use.
